Boston Brown Bread

Equipment

  • 7 16 oz. cans Same cans green beans or other canned vegetables come in

Ingredients
  

  • 3 c all bran cereal
  • c raisins
  • 3 c buttermilk
  • 3 tbsp molasses
  • c sugar
  • 3 c flour
  • tsp baking soda

Instructions
 

  1. Preheat oven to 250 °F
  2. In a large bowl combine 3 c buttermilk, 3 c all bran cereal, and 1½ c raisins. Let soak for a few minutes to soften.
  3. Combine 3 tbsp molasses, 1½ c sugar, 3 c flour, and 1½ tsp baking soda with buttermilk mixture and mix well.
  4. Fill 16oz greased cans about half full with the bread mixture (will usually make about 7 cans).
  5. Bake for 1 hour or until toothpick comes out clean.
