Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream

Equipment

  • 1 Ice cream maker

Ingredients
  

  • 6 tbsp corn starch
  • c sugar
  • tsp salt
  • 6 eggs (beaten)
  • 3 c milk
  • 1 qt half and half
  • 2 qt half and half
  • 2 tbsp vanilla

Instructions
 

  1. Freeze ice cream bowl at least 24 hours ahead of use.
  2. Mix 6 tbsp corn starch, ⅓ tsp salt, and 3¼ c sugar together.
  3. Add 6 eggs, 3 c milk, and1 qt half and half.
  4. Cook over medium heat until it is like custard (coats spoon). Allow to cool.
  5. When ready to freeze, add 2 qt half and half and 2 tbsp vanilla. Freeze according to the ice cream mixer directions.
  6. Remove dasher and pack freezer with ice and salt over can. Cover bowl with newspaper and plastic wrap.
  7. Let set 1½ to 2 hours.
