Mom's sugar cookies

Ingredients
  

  • 5 c flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 sticks margarine ((or corn oil))
  • 2 c sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • ½ c milk ((plus additional for brushing))

Instructions
 

  1. Sift together 5 c flour, 2 tsp baking powder, and 2 tsp nutmeg. Set aside.
  2. Cream together 2 sticks margarine, 2 c sugar, and 2 eggs. Add 2 tsp vanilla and ½ c milk.
  3. Sift flour mixture into creamed mixture, a little at a time. Chill thoroughly.
  4. Preheat oven to 375 °F
  5. Divide dough into quarters, keep remaining dough chilled as you work each quarter.
  6. Roll each quarter out onto a floured surface to ⅛ inch thick and cut into desired shapes with floured cookie cutters.
  7. Place on greased cookie sheet and brush lightly with milk.
  8. Bake for about 10 minutes, do not over bake.
  9. Remove immediately to rack to cool. Cookies keep about a week in sealed container and freeze well.
