Mom's sugar cookies
Ingredients
- 5 c flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 2 tsp nutmeg
- 2 sticks margarine ((or corn oil))
- 2 c sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla
- ½ c milk ((plus additional for brushing))
Instructions
- Sift together 5 c flour, 2 tsp baking powder, and 2 tsp nutmeg. Set aside.
- Cream together 2 sticks margarine, 2 c sugar, and 2 eggs. Add 2 tsp vanilla and ½ c milk.
- Sift flour mixture into creamed mixture, a little at a time. Chill thoroughly.
- Preheat oven to 375 °F
- Divide dough into quarters, keep remaining dough chilled as you work each quarter.
- Roll each quarter out onto a floured surface to ⅛ inch thick and cut into desired shapes with floured cookie cutters.
- Place on greased cookie sheet and brush lightly with milk.
- Bake for about 10 minutes, do not over bake.
- Remove immediately to rack to cool. Cookies keep about a week in sealed container and freeze well.
