German Chicken and Dumplings
Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken (cut up)
- 2 oz pickling spice
- 2 c bisquick
- ⅔ c milk
- salt and pepper
Instructions
- Place 1 whole chicken in a large pot or dutch oven with 2 oz pickling spice and salt and pepper. Cover and bring to a boil.
- Turn down to low and cook 30-40 minutes until done. Lift chicken out with slotted spoon.
- Drain broth through colander into another large pan. Pour half of the broth back to the first cooking pot. Add water to the 1st pot for dumplings and bring to a boil.
- Drop dumpling mixture in by tablespoons into boil broth, cook uncovered for 10 minutes. Cover and cook 10 more minutes.⅔ c milk, 2 c bisquick
- In the other broth pot, add thickening to make gravy and pour over chicken. Serve dumplings in a separate bowl.
