Ashley's Home-made Macaroni and Cheese Pudding
Ingredients
- 2½ c elbow macaroni
- ¼ c butter
- ¼ c flour
- 1¼ c milk
- 2 c cheddar cheese (grated)
- salt and pepper (to taste)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 °F
- Cook 2½ c elbow macaroni and drain thoroughly.
- Set aside in a lightly sprayed 2 quart baking dish.
- Melt ¼ c butter in a saucepan, blend in ¼ c flour and salt and pepper, stir until smooth.
- Add 1¼ c milk slowly, until sauce bubbles.
- Mix 2 c cheddar cheese into cooled macaroni. Pour sauce over top of macaroni and dot with butter.
- Bake for 35 minutes.
Notes
Thomas Jefferson introduced this now American dish at a White House dinner in 1982. It was then called pie. (this is the first recipe that Ashley made without any help.)
