Ashley's Home-made Macaroni and Cheese Pudding

Ingredients
  

  • c elbow macaroni
  • ¼ c butter
  • ¼ c flour
  • c milk
  • 2 c cheddar cheese (grated)
  • salt and pepper (to taste)

Instructions
 

  1. Preheat oven to 400 °F
  2. Cook 2½ c elbow macaroni and drain thoroughly.
  3. Set aside in a lightly sprayed 2 quart baking dish.
  4. Melt ¼ c butter in a saucepan, blend in ¼ c flour and salt and pepper, stir until smooth.
  5. Add 1¼ c milk slowly, until sauce bubbles.
  6. Mix 2 c cheddar cheese into cooled macaroni. Pour sauce over top of macaroni and dot with butter.
  7. Bake for 35 minutes.

Notes

Thomas Jefferson introduced this now American dish at a White House dinner in 1982.  It was then called pie.  (this is the first recipe that Ashley made without any help.)
