Buttermilk Chocolate Cake

Ingredients
  

Cake Mix

  • 2 c flour
  • 2 c sugar
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 4 tbsp cocoa
  • ½ c Crisco
  • 1 c water
  • ½ c buttermilk
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ tsp vanilla
  • ½ tsp salt

Icing

  • 1 stick margarine
  • 5-6 tbsp milk
  • 4 tbsp cocoa
  • 1 lb powdered sugar

Instructions
 

Cake Mix

  1. In a large bowl mix together 2 c flour and 2 c sugar. Set aside.
  2. In a small pan, bring to a boil 1 stick margarine, 4 tbsp cocoa, ½ c Crisco, and 1 c water. Stir into flour/sugar mixture.
  3. Stir 1 tsp baking soda into ½ c buttermilk and add to mixture.
  4. Then add 2 eggs, ½ tsp vanilla, and ½ tsp salt. Combine.
  5. Pour into greased and floured (or sprayed) pan (cookie sheet size pan) and bake at 400 °F for 18 to 20 minutes.

Icing

  1. Bring 1 stick margarine, 5-6 tbsp milk, and 4 tbsp cocoa to a boil. Beat in 1 lb powdered sugar (may use less).
  2. Put hot icing on cake.
